This video explains the underlying Salsa rhythm to young children. This rhythm involves stepping on beats 1, 2, and 3 out of a 4 beats of music. This rhythm is introduced to the viewers by counting it out to popular children's songs, and then moving into the use of that rhythm in Latin music. For older children and adults, the resources below are recommended: 1- A written introduction to dance rhythms is here: https://danceintime.com/miscellaneous-1/2017/3/22/chart-of-latin-dance-rhythms. 2- This video youtu.be/c2zXnvWdUFE shows demonstrations of Merengue, Salsa, and Bachata--with a quick reference to their underlying rhythms. Very briefly: Merengue dancers step on every beat. Salsa dancers step on beats 1, 2, and 3, out of every 4 beats. Bachata dancers step on beats 1, 2 and 3 out of every 4 beats, and then tap on the 4th beat. A tap is when someone's foot touches the floor but no weight is put on that foot. You can not only watch dance demonstrations, but you can also practic
This program was done at a small college in Florida for Hispanic Heritage Month. First Barb and Glen explained and demonstrated the underlying rhythms of some popular Latin dances. Then they danced and asked the students if they could identify which dance they were doing based on what they learned. They also showed a Swing dance, which hadn't been taught. This was to see if the students could identify that the music and movement style of Swing is different from the Latin dance styles. It was a lively show! This video has Barb Bernstein explaining some basic concepts in Set Theory, a branch of Mathematics. The material below reviews and extends the ideas that are presented... Q: What is a set? A: A set is a collection of things. Q: What do we call the things in a set? A: We call each one an "element" of the set. Q: What kind of things can be in a set? A: Anything can be an element of a set. You can have a set of flowers, or a set of breakfast foods, or a set of "school rules," etc. Q: What is the difference between "combinations" and "permutations" in set theory? A: A combination is just a list of some elements from a set. But permutations refer to how those elements are ordered. For example, suppose you have the set of people on a baseball team. You can list a group of them that play in the outfield. This would be a combination of players from the team, and the order they are listed in wouldn't matter. But if you list the first four players by their batting order, you have a li

This shows Glen, a longtime Danceintime teacher, performing and teaching at different venues. The initial video shows him with Barb, demonstrating some dances for a Hispanic Heritage program at a college in Florida. Then there is some video of Glen demonstrating some solo shines for leads and for follows at the Danceintime class in DC. The last few video clips were filmed in London. Glen was dancing with another Danceintime teacher, Michael Washington, at a dance venue in London, England. The dancing was spirited and free-wheeling and heart-felt. These videos all show Glen adding style to his dance moves, with arms, legs, and body movement. Viewers can see many ways to add flair to dance moves! There is even more video of Glen dancing, with loads of styling ideas in a guidebook written by Barb Bernstein, Director of Danceintime.com. (The Amazon link is here: www.amazon.com/dp/B0DK7D98XK.)
